The story follows Masamune Okumura, a second-year high school student and president of his school's manga club, who is obsessed with the fictional character Liliel. He claims no interest in real girls until first-year student Lilysa Amano, a passionate cosplayer and fellow Liliel fan, joins the club and recruits him as her photographer. As Okumura begins to fall for Lilysa, he feels conflicted. Other girls join the club, including Okumura's childhood friend Mikari Tachibana, who harbors unrequited love for him.

The series features a cast of cosplayers and supporters, including professional cosplayer 753♡, mentor figures Magino and Ogino, teacher and former cosplayer Mayuri Hanyu, shy rookie Nonoa, and gyaru cosplayer Aria Kisaki. Aria's father, Yoichi Higarashi, is a manga artist who created a Liliel spinoff and was inspired by a fan letter from Okumura. Manga & Publication History

Yu Hashimoto both wrote and illustrated the series, which ran on Shueisha's Shōnen Jump+ digital platform from June 15, 2019, through December 20, 2025. Over those six and a half years, the chapters were compiled into twenty-five tankōbon volumes, with the first released on October 4, 2019, and the final volume arriving on February 4, 2026. The series found an English-speaking audience in June 2021 when Seven Seas Entertainment announced a licensing deal, publishing the manga under their Ghost Ship imprint. The long serialization span and steady volume release gave the story room to develop its ensemble cast gradually, weaving in subplots about the cosplay industry, manga creation struggles, and the characters' personal traumas alongside the central romance.
